Ihuatzio

The zona arqueologica de Ihuatzio was used as an astronomical observatory and ceremonial centre until the arrival of the conquistadors. Traces of human settlement are recorded during two periods, the first comprised the tenth century to the thirteenth century and the second corresponding to the maximum development of the Purepecha or Tarascan culture between the years 1200-1530.
