Peyto Lake

Peyto Lake, Banff National Park, Alberta

The beautiful Peyto Lake is located at the summit of Bow Pass (2,088 m, or 6,849 ft ) on the Icefields Parkway. The view north is the Mistaya Valley. Peyto Lake, named after the pioneer outfitter ‘Wild Bill Peyto’ in 1898, is the headwater for the Mistaya River. It gets its beautiful colour from fine particles of till known as rock flour. They reflect the blue/green spectrum of light which gives this glacial lake its remarkable hue.
