Kadavu Island, Fiji

On this tranquil bay the women of Namuana village still preserve a very strange ritual, that of calling turtles from the sea. As the women chant you can see giant turtles rise one by one to lie on the surface listening to the haunting music. Today the people of Kadavu are known for their friendliness. Not so 150 years ago when cannibalism was prevalent. Visitors would have been welcome guests for dinner – the main course.
