Mt. Chephren, The Icefields Parkway, Banff National Park, Alberta

Mt. Chephren, at 3,307 m (10,847 ft), is located in Banff National Park, Canada’s first, established in 1885. The first ascent was accomplished in 1913. It was originally called Pyramid Mountain by explorer Mary Schaffer in 1908, who was known to the Stoney Indians as Yahe- Weha, or “mountain woman”. At that time the mountain was known as The Black Pyramid, but was changed in 1918 to Mt. Chephren to avoid confusion with Pyramid Mountain near Jasper.Chephren was the son of Cheops, builder of the great pyramid in Egypt.
