Massive Iceberg, Greenland
The northernmost country in the world and the world’s largest island. Of Greenland’s 2,175,600 sq. km, all but 341,700 sq. km. lie beneath a sheet of ice up to 3,000 metres thick. If Greenland were to melt down, the sea level would rise 6 metres and many of the world’s coastal cities would be under water. In the winter it’s not unusual for the thermometer to hover at -50 c for weeks. Huge icebergs like this one, of which you can only see a fraction of above sea level, often break away from coastal areas and slowly drift with the currents, sometimes for years.
